Managing sent items using Windows Mail

I like to file sent items which are replies to incoming mails together in a
relevant folder. There was a way to set up a rule when I used Outlook to do
just that, so I would file an incoming mail in the correct folder, then reply
and the reply would very helpfully file itself in the same folder. The
rule-maker in Windows Mail is very primitive compared to Outlook, how can I
save myself the hassle of having to retrieve everything from Sent Items?

No way to set up a rule that will work automatically on Sent Items. It
would have to be applied manually.

Now you know why Outlook costs a heck of a lot more than the
free email programs.

So realising that Windows Mail lacks the advanced features of Outlook, and
owning Outlook, is it really as easy to switch from one to the other going
through the steps offered by the help Menu in order to ensure that Outlook is
the default programme?How can I ensure that following what looks like a
simple instruction will not screw up the email history?

Only install Outlook if your version is 2003 or 2007. Earlier versions
are not fully compatible with Vista. Installing Outlook will automatically
make it the default email program. Not sure what you mean by
"email history".
