Guys,

Finally moved over from 98SE to XP Pro. So far so good, w/ one exception.
How do I manage/arrange/group the myriad of listings under the Start - All
Programs group? Under 98SE you could go to Task Bar & Start Menu and w/i a
Windows Explorer framework create folders for programs and organize those
programs. How do I do that under XP Pro? I've found the "Task Bar & Start
Menu" icon under Control Panel, but I don't see where it will let me do what
I want to do, re organizing program entries.

For example, I'd like to have a main group where I could catalog programs
such as Office, Print Shop, digi camera suite, etc. Then I'd like to have a
Utilities group, under which I would have subcategories for Hardware and
Software. I don't like the "long as your arm" listing I get on the screen
when I click on All Programs; I'd like to shorten it by setting up groups,
if you will.

TIA,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

WinXP Pro is a bitt different from Win98, but generaly here is what you can
do to accomplish your request:

1. Right Click on the Start button.
2. Choose Open All Users from popup menu (this will get you to the
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" folder)
3. Double click Programs folder
4. And here you can arrange and rearrange as you wish, make new folders,
etc.

NB! This will affect all users Programs menu entryes using computer.

If you wish to modify only yours Programs menu then you will have to follow
these steps:

1. Right Click on the Start button.
2. Choose Open from popup menu (this will get you to the "C:\Documents and
Settings\"USERNAME"\Start Menu\Programs" folder) - USERNAME wil be your name
or the name of person loged on to the box
3. Double click Programs folder
4. And here you can arrange and rearrange as you wish, make new folders,
etc.

NB! This will affect only yours Program menu entryes.

Cheers
/Goran

*Scroll Programs |
**Use Personalized Menus
Make sure this is checked:
Enable dragging and dropping
OK | Apply | OK

[*Specifies whether to display the items on the Programs menu as one long
scrolling menu or as
horizontal pages. Depending on your screen resolution, if you have more than
29 or 38 programs
installed, and you select to have one long scrolling menu, you can access
the programs you don't see
by clicking the arrow at each end of the list of programs.]

[**Specifies whether to turn on Personalized Menus.
Personalized Menus keeps the Programs menu clean by hiding items you haven't
used recently, while still keeping other programs easily accessible. You
can gain access to hidden programs by clicking the down arrow at the bottom
of the Programs menu.]
