Hi all,

I'm upgrading my hard drive from 120gb to 250gb.

Installed the 250gb drive as the slave and using Ghost 10 sucessfully
duplicated the 120gb to the 250gb.

Now don't laugh!

What I can't do is get the damn power plug out of the 120gb drive as I
want to remove the drive from the machine.

I have wiggled it, pulled on it, tried pulling with pliers but the
damn thing won't budge. I'm afraid of breaking it if I apply anymore
pressure. It's never been out before so I presume they install them
that way. They must make these connections for Superman!

Before I take a sledhehammer to it does anyone have a suggestion as to
how to remove it?

Harry W.,

Ive had that problem a few times. It literally feels like its glued
with epoxy. With mine I kept at it - wiggling it and pulling and it
eventually comes out. The problem is you are using so much force that
you can easily crack the plastic surround when wiggling.

After I take it out I usually put a tiny tiny slight bit of anything
slippery around the casing and wipe it so theres no excess at all.

Heat the connector with a hair dryer, set to hot. At the same time, both
wiggle and pull on the connector. Pull straight out, if possible.

Get needle nose pliers. Clamp down on the 4-pin Molex connector. Slap the
side of your palm (the fleshy outside part) against the prongs of the needle
nose that are clamping onto the connector. This lets you pull out the
connector and do it straight without severe wiggling that can damage the
connector or loosen the pins. Obviously the device had better be secure so
it doesn't go flying when you slap the pliers that are holding onto the
connector. If you can't manage to grip the connector hard enough to keep
the pliers from slipping when you you slap it, use a lockjaw plier, and you
could even use a tiny hammer (but I don't like the shock that gets
transmitted back to the drive so I use the flesh part of my side palm). The
pliers itself may give you the grip you need to use bigger muscles than in
your fingers.

I don't know what kind of pliers you have available but
needle-nose or vise-grip (locking type) can be used. When
you look at the plug, it usually flares up at the back end.
Put the plier jaws just in front of these two flared-up
areas, so that the pliers are perpendicular to the drive,
sticking up at a 90' angle (with the drive turned face-up).

Next slide in a wedge, a folded over piece of paper or a
wood, rubber, whatever- shim sitting right up against the
connector, not sitting up at the very top edge of the drive
(as some drives have soft shells that might be bent but
nearer the connecter it's up against the thick frame of the
drive.

With the wedge in place push the pliers towards the front of
the drive. It's harder to explain than to do it, the key
being to use those tabs on the power connector but not pull
out away from the drive with the pliers but rather leverage
against the drive frame. Be careful not to twist the
connector upwards, not flexing the circuit board where it
connects to the connector while pulling it out.

ILMAO!! Call 911, hurry

Thanks to all for the replies!

Got it off with a pair of pliers and a LOT of wiggling.

Guess they don't you doing it yourself. LOL
