I bought an HP notebook that came preinstalled with a trial version of
Office 2007. Well, I never been to activate it --never used it at all- and
now it's expired. What I really want to do is send and receive Faxes and it
seems I read somewhere this was possible with Office 2007. WTF?

More of a question for an office newsgroup. However, now that it's expired,
it's time to pay the piper and by a copy.

Nothing to do with Vista, but if you want to use functions of Office 2007,
you have to buy a license, you can't use something you didn't pay for, I
don't see how you can think you got hosed?

You "hosed" yourself, bozo.

Um, yes you can use Office 2007 without paying for it:

<SNIP LINK AS A PUBLIC SERVICE>

I would recommend http://www.openoffice.org/ though.

I won't even click on the link but there you go promoting piracy. Too
bad someone can't come to your place and steal your lively hood.

You don't believe a company should be able to charge for their products?
You sure are an IDIOT.

If you want to use Office you'll have to pay for it, as others have
said. There are alternatives. Open Office (www.openoffice.org) is a
free, open source office suite with loads of functionality. And
low-cost, even free, fax programs are available. Google for them.

What are you afraid of? Oh, right, you're using Windows and surfing the
Net can be dangerous for you Windows users.
but there you go promoting piracy.

I recommended Open Office, dumb ****.

It's spelled livelihood, dumb ****.

Oh, they do. I do NOT recommend piracy. I was just correcting the poster
who said that one *had* to pay to use Office 2007. You then exercised
your right to post another leap of logic for all of us to laugh at.
You sure are an IDIOT.

The irony!

You REALLY must be ****ing stupid. You recommended a site that promotes
piracy. You DID post the link didn't you? What an IDIOT. You don't
even remember what the hell you posted. You are probably so high on
HASH you can hardly type. NO wonder why you can't drive. You are
always stoned.

Too

Never said I was an English major you retard. So I can't spell. BFD.
I still make a good living, unlike yourself who has to rely on the
government for handouts and public transportation to get your stoned ass
around town.

Well if you don't recommend piracy you IDIOT, then don't post links to
where you can get it. I know you probably don't understand that concept
so print this out and take it to a responsible adult who can explain it
to you. Please allow 4 to 6 hours for that information to sink in to
your drug infested head.

Because in previous versions of Windows being able to send and receive faxes
was pretty much a given. Now I am supposed to upgrade for the capability. It
would be cheaper just to buy a fax machine. Thankfully I have a machine with
XP in the same room. This still sucks though.

You can tell when the nymshifter is out of ammo; he always resorts to

The Fax capabilities are not free with any version of Office, they were
included with Windows XP and are also included with the "business" versions
of Vista. Home Vista versions do not include fax capabilities. You will
need to either download a free fax program or purchase one. Google is your
friend in this case.

IIRC the only way to send a fax from within Office is to either print to a
fax program using your fax/modem and an analog line or paying for an
internet fax service.

How so? This should be good if Frank actually explains himself rather
than go ape shit with his usual copy and paste.

Totally ignoring the statement as usual. It is YOU that lie constantly. You post a link that
promotes piracy yet you ignore the accusation. Figures.

Your noble mission is all ****ed up.

I was supposed to get to use it for 60 days by buying this HP notebook with
Vista on it. That was their deal. I never got to use it at all! From day 1
there were problems activating it. As I said it's a known issue on my model
on the HP website. And guess what, I have Office XP so I just use that. But
when it's loaded into Vista rather than my XP machine the fax capabilities
are all jacked and won't work.

No. What you are supposed to do is do the research to find out what
you get in the product you buy before you buy it, and decide whether
that's the right product for you. That's true whether you buy
software, a car, or anything else.

It
would be cheaper just to buy a fax machine.

Or a third-party fax machine. Or, if you don't fax often, pay for the
use of a fax service whenever you need it. My personal choice is to
buy an inexpensive stand-alone fax machine. I paid $20 on sale for
mine.

XP Pro the OS has FAX capabilities and so does Vista Business and

Well now that I think about it my Desktop does have Windows XP Professional
Version 2002 on it. It also has a basic version of Office XP on it. But you
could send a fax in Windows 98. Are you telling me that in Windows XP Home
or basic or whatever you couldn't send faxes?

Obviously I'm not sure how it works. From Microsoft Word (in XP) you could
just go File>Send To>Fax Recipient. But it's just as easy to use the
software that came with my $15 dollar modem though. It just gets to me me
that I can't do it from my "new notebook." I mean you could send faxes with
older versions of windows.

Man, there may well be some truth (a lot) to that. But you can hardly fault
me for thinking I would surely be able to send faxes if needed. It's like
Windows not being able to play cd's or Windows coming without Internet
Explorer or Windows Media Player or something --all the previous versions
had it.
