Hey,

Someone has told me that Malwarebytes Anti-malware is a really good tool for getting rid of nasties.

I've tried downloading version 1.34 from their site and download.com and neither of them work. When I try and run the file it says it's corrupt. Anyone else having this problem?

Nope!! lol. It must be something at my end because that's 3 locations and all do the same thing. They download the file (but it looks like it's starting from three quarters downloaded already for some reason) and then when you run it it says the file is corrupted.

Hmmmm.

OK, so what browser are you using then ... ;)

Oh, it don't matter, I seen your HJT post, nowt wrong ... yet.

Haha, but there soon will be with my free version of AVG! ;-)

Would you be able to tell from HJT if there were any virus's on the computer etc? You reckon I'm worrying about nothing?

At the moment yes ... but there is no room for complacency ... ;)

Real "viruses" are very few these days, the num 1 annoyances are Trojans, Worms & Malware ... the writers are more concerned in taking over your system, covertly, than destroying it.

Well, I got Malwarebytes downloaded and it found a load of things, but it was all that video egg stuff that you saw on HJT too!! So deleted it all.

So now I've run HJT, Malwarebytes, Ad Aware, CCleaner and Super Antispyware. Fingers crossed that lot will have got rid of anything horrid!!

You mentioned before about online virus scanners. Do you know what the best one is? Was thinking just as a final check I'd leave the computer on overnight and run one of them.

And last thing (promise!!), and this could be a stupid question. Do you have to run an exe file to get a virus? I am going to plug my USB hard drive in and copy about half a dozen files over onto my laptop and then format the drive and copy them back. That won't cause a problem in terms of virus' will it?

Thanks for all your help.

Online ... I keep repeating myself, oh well ...

HouseCall & Kaspersky ... run both

.. you google 'em. ;)

There are always exceptions to any rule. But usually, yes, you will have to "run" a file, you may not know that you are runnin an EXE, as some are very well disguised.

Depends on what is hiding in the files you copy. :D
