Malware

I see all these posts for programs but I wonder if the posters know if
the proferred items are clean of malware - be it virus, spyware, adware
or whatever.

That's what virus/spyware scanners are for :) But, seriously, I think
the freeware author mentality (I am in a position to know, since I am
one myself) is for the most part good-natured. After a while, you learn
how to recognize whether someone offering a free program is genuine or
not; by genuine I mean not having other motives aside from simply using
their free time to make others' more productive. It's not a good idea
to over-advertise, for one thing. And over time, some freeware
offerings become very trusted and indispensible to many people.

Any program recommended here, by anyone, could have a virus, be
spyware or adware.
