malfunctioning disk clean up

When I go to all programs/accessories/system tools/disk
clean up, and click it begins to analyze but then
apparently seizes up because it never goes any further
than little bubble up window, no matter how long I wait.
(have waited literaLLY HOURS) need help to get it to work
again. HELP! thanks--Steve
 
Try the following web sites for troubleshooting suggestions:

Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll
down to Line #48. In the right-hand window, click on
"Disk Cleanup - Compress Old Files Freezes"

Simply click on Kelly's fix, download the registry fix, then run it.
(Note: Disable your antivirus program before running the repair script)

I tried the fix. I downloaded it and ran it and it said
it was successfully installed into the registry. Now when
I try to run the cleanup app, when I select the drive and
click OK, the window disappears and no action is
taken...it just goes away.

Live and learn...
Try going to search at microsoft.com,type:812248
The fix is available.
However now that you tried the third-party junk,get xp
back on track first,go to run,type:cmd At the curser
type:Sfc /Scannow When the graph starts install xp cd,
exit the info page,when the graph is thru,remove cd,then
type:CHKDSK C: /R Agree to restart,then type:EXIT Reboot
computer.On desktop,run #812248 Then restart computer.
It will run now,if not blame youre 3rd party for registry
failure...
