Malfunctioning CD burner

My CD burner is unable to burn CDs. I deleted the driver, and when that
re-installed I was able at least to play CDs from the burner. It still does
not burn. It runs, but does not allow you to shut it down, nor allow any
other operation. The commuter must be manually shut down. Does anyone know
what sort of a problem this might be?

If you suspect a hardware problem such as this your system should be checked
by a qualified technician.
