Hi,

I know this is a really simple question, but I am trying
to make my WinXP Pro laptop a server using DHCP - so that
when I plug in my work laptop (which uses DHCP) it will
automatically receive a IP Address which will make it
viewable throught the network connections.

can anyone help?

Cheers

I wouldn't recommend that setup. Why would you use a mobile device as a
server??? You want a DHCP sevrer to be on 24/7, and I can't see anyone
doing that with a laptop (it'd probably overheat eventually).

Besides, you don't need DHCP to provide an IP address. In your situation, I
would recommend hard-setting the address on each laptop. Use addresses
starting with 192.168.0.1 (assign to your "server") and 192.168.0.2 for the
other laptop. Use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If you ever implement a
true permanent server on your LAN, reassign the 192.168.0.1 address to it
and THEN use DHCP to serve IP addresses.
