But I have a couple of questions first.... I currently have a 2 year old PC running Windows 98se. It has been unstable the last few months, and I think its time to start fresh. Before I do, I want to ensure I cover all the bases

1 - XP Home or Pro? I have heard conflicting information. We use our PC primarily for SOHO work
2 - After reformatting the old hard drive, should I perform an install of the FULL version of XP -- or reload 98se, then load the UPGRADE of XP? I am leaning toward the full version, but it is obviously more expensive

thanks for your help

Pro
Full - in the long run it will be better because you wont have to keep the
SE CD around as proof to reinstall later.

The Home upgrade will work just fine for you. You can do a clean install
with any XP CD. No need to format and reload 98. Set your BIOS to boot from
the CD drive first, then insert the XP CD and boot. The CD has all the tools
to format your hard drive and do a clean install of XP. Follow the screen
prompts. And look at the links below before you start.

Make sure your system is even worth the expense compared to a new system
with probably twice the specs for not much more. You need to consider, you
will need to upgrade your AV, possibly CD burning software and scanner. Ram
will need to be increased to at least 256 and hard drive space for XP should
be at least 10 gigs free if you intend to use all the features of XP.
