making recovery dvd

have new computer with XP home. When making recovery dvd
the program tells me to put in a dvd that is empty. The
dvds I use have nothing on them. when I open the dvd it
shows as empty. Is there something hidden on the new dvd
that I can't find and is bothering the recovery disk maker?

What type of writer is the DVD drive? +R, -R, +RW or -RW?
What type of "blank" DVD are you trying to use in it? +R, -R, +RW or -RW?
What application is trying to burn the said DVDs?
What type (name brand) of computer is this that wants you to make DVD
backups yourself so I can avoid that brand in the future? heh
