Making objects disappear

I have a slide that contains several pictures - no
animation at this point.
I want to make the pictures disappear - how?

It depends. Which version of PPT are you using?
 
I think we need some more information from you. First what version of
PowerPoint are you using? Second, how do you want them to disappear (by
clicking on them, by clicking on a button, by hitting the space bar,
....)? Do you want the pictures to come back later? PowerPoint 2002 and
above has exit animation features, which seems like what you want (click
on a picture, choose Custom Animation and add an exit effect).
PowerPoint 2003 can trigger the exit effect in various ways. PowerPoint
97 and above can do whatever you want with VBA scripting, but that is
probably more than you want for this.
