Making home slide shows

I love making slide shows for the family from our photos
and adding music to them. Is there a PowerPoint Version
that allows the slides to actually fade from one to the
other? I know that there are transitions and have used
them but I would like one picture to actually turn right
into the next.

Thanks for any help.

Using PowerPoint is a OK solution but recently I've found
that MS Movie Maker 2 (a free program) is a better
solution when creating a photo slideshow with music.

Why? You get more functionality than PP such as more
effects and transitions. I particularly like the Ease In
effect. I gives the photos a movie like quality. Not to
mention you can add music and narration.

So if you have WIN XP download MS Movie Maker 2
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsXP/moviemaker/downloads/m
oviemaker2.asp), and bring life to your photos :)

I am using Windows 98 SE so I guess I can't download the
program you suggested. It sounds like it is just what I
need though. I have PowerPoint 2000.

Thank you for reply. I sure would to use MS Movie Maker 2.

ProShow has such transitions that may be what you want. You can
mouse-over a transition and preview what it looks like for the
currently selected slide. Uses a timeline for composing, can create
stand-alone exe or screen saver for computer, or burn to standard
cdrom as vcd or svcd for viewing on dvd player.

For the most part you can do what you want in version 2000. You can change
pictures on separate slides from one to the other using a number of
transitions such as random bars and dissolve. The main problem is that you
do not specifically have the FADE effect, which was introduced in version
2002.

Using versions 2000 or 97 in the past, I faked fades if I truly truly truly
needed to fade. You can see how I did it here...
http://www.echosvoice.com/animationfeatures.htm. Look for the paragraph
about fading with my name in it.

Having said that, if this is all you are trying to accomplish (fade one pic
to another with music) I would recommend you checking out other programs
made more for that. PowerPoint is made to do much much more and may not be
worth the learning curve for that simple of a project. Do a word search at
Download.com for "slide show".
