Making harddrives independent

I have two computers with this problem, one running windows 2000 prof
and one running windows 2003 server (RC2).

When i installed these operating systems, i did it when there was
another hard drive in the computer. This meant that, because the other
hard drive is 'Drive C' it has put all the boot instructions on that
hard drive. I don't know much about it, but i know that this includes
the boot.ini file.

What i would like to do is take the Drive C out, allowing the second
hard drive with the operating system to run independently. However i
don't know how to make the hard drive bootable and able to cope
without the boot.ini and what ever else, which is on the first drive.

Any help much appreciated,

Ben Wylie

Hey Ben,

I had a simular problem with Windows 98SE and W2k on a dual boot HD. I
simply took out the W98se drive and boot the other HD to the CD rom and
installed W2k on the booted C drive.

I now boot either drive by changing the BIOS boot from "drive 0" W2k to
"drive 1" Windows98SE. It is NOT a dual boot! Although the boot.ini is
still there, I leave it along because it does not bother me.

About the BIOS booting, look for booting from in the BIOS. You should see
several options, A drive, CDROM, HD0, HD1, etc. I have four drives I can
start to boot to.
1. CD ROM
2. HD 0
3. HD 1
4. Floppy

or any of the above.
