Making emails stay unread when delegate reads them

I'm a delegate of someones email but when I read emails, it comes up as being
read on her machine. Is there anyway to change this? Its outlook 2007

Seems like that is what a delegate is for, but just don't open them
then, only read them in the Preview pane.
