Making DVD

Many thanks to Papa John and John Kelly for your responses to my earlier
question regarding file formats. I have a follow up question if you don't
mind. I am importing video from an analog source. This is why I can't get
DV-AVI since I don't have a digital camcorder to run the signal thru. At
this point I have WMV files that I will "massage" using MM2 adding titles,
chapters & effects (fades, etc.). Here is where I get lost. I am totally
confused by NERO. Nero wants to add a default title to my video, etc. which
I don't need because I already have them from MM2. I need to figure out how
to take the output of MM2 and BURN it to a DVD. I have a DVD burner. Can
you help take some of the mystery out of the process?

You need to do it with DVD authoring software.... like Nero. There are lots
of files put onto the disc in addition to the video files themselves.... or
you wouldn't have menu structure on the DVD to move around.

Check the DVD Software section of my website to see what others are using
and some comments about them. You might want to download a free trial
version of some of them...

Hello,

This assumes you have the same Nero as me...Version 6 Reloaded. In any case the
process must be fairly similar....

1) Start Nero Vision Express.

2) Select the top option...Make DVD

3) At the next screen click on the second option "Add Video Files" and navigate
too and select your video file

4) At this point you may get a warning that your video is too large. You will
be asked if you want to reduce the quality to make it fit...its my view that
you should always answer no and manipulate the quality yourself so that the
video just fits...you get a much better result that way.

5) Click on the last option in the list and carefully navigate to desired
locations in the video and click on the rightmost icon under the viewer...this
will add a chapter point. In the right hand pane you can then edit the name of
that chapter. Click Next when done and you are returned to the main screen.

6) For each video file that you added you must give it a friendly name. You do
this by editing the top most line of text to the right of that video place
marker (that sounds terrible, hopefully you will make sense of that when
looking at the screen) You do not HAVE to edit the name...you can leave it
as-is...you will see why later.

7) Having added all video files and added chapters etc its time to move to the
opening screen you will see when first playing the disc...to go there click the
Next button (bottom right)

8)) If you have downloaded the free pack of menu styles etc you will be
presented with a choice of styles....you do not have to use ANY of them because
you can edit them all to the fullest extent...so select the one of your choice,
or just select the default

9) Click the main display (the menu you have chosen) On the right you will now
see loads of options to do with the look and feel of the main menu for your
DVD....its best if you experiment here by clicking on one of the options and
then editing it to suit your needs...basically you can change EVERYTHING
including animation of menu buttons and backgrounds...you can remove all text
and images if you want...the choice is yours. At this stage you can save the
menu you have designed as a template for future DVD's...very handy that. When
you have finished click Next again

10) you now have a DVD preview...speaks for itself...if you don't like what you
see you can go back and change it

11) Click next again and you will arrive at the DVD burning options....one of
the options is to create a disk image and save it to your hard drive...doing
that would give you the ability to go back later and quickly burn another copy

Takes deep breath...can I go home now.....please :)

I hope that helps a little, if you get stuck....do come back and ask
