As I corrected a typing error I had made, the correction
typed right over the words in the following sentence! I
don't want it to do that! I simply want to insert the
correct words. Please help! How do I stop this?

Julie,
Did you accidently hit the insert key next to your home key. This activates
the typeover mode. Just hit the key again and everything should be allright.
You can see if insert or typeover is active at the bottom of your screen,
look for the OVR sign, if it is black your in typeover, if it's not your in
insert. Double clicking on it activates or deactivates it.

Hi Julie

Toggle your insert key so that the letters OVR are grayed
out on the bar at the bottom of the word processor screen.

Julie,

you can toggle the overtype mode by clicking the Insert
key on your keyboard. Additionally, you can select Typing
replaces selection from...

Tools | Options | Edit. This feature enables you to
typeover the characters of a selected word, words, or
section.

Julie,

You have probably inadvertenly toggled overstike (with the
insert key). You should see a black OVR in the display at
the bottom of your screen, toggle it with the insert key
or with the mouse. To stop the Insert key from toggling
overstrike, go to Tools>Options>Edit and check Use Insert
Key for Paste.
