Making another folder act like My Documents?

Hi,

Okay, I'll try to explain this the best I can, but I've
never been very good at explaining things like this.
I've currently got my harddrives set up in 3 partitions;
a 10gb partition for XP/drivers/various other programs,
an 80gb striped partition for applications/games, and a
50gb partition for data such as audio, video, documents,
and downloads. This is the way I like having it set up,
and it's working very well so far, with the exception of
one thing.

I'd like to have 2 folders on my desktop; one called My
Documents, and one called Downloads. I want them both to
link to their respective folders on my E:\ drive (Data).
With the My Documents folder, it's simple enough, all I
had to do was change the path to the target My Documents
folder in the desktop link's properties. However, with
Downloads, I could not find a way to duplicate this.

I tried using a regular shortcut to link to it, which
works somewhat, but it does not appear in dropdown drive
lists such as the ones found in Open/Save As dialogs,
where I really need it.

Does anyone know how (or if) this could be accomplished?

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

"Any" shortcut on your Desktop should show up under Open/Save As. I have
using this method for years.

Go to the partition in question, right click the Folder in question and
choose, Send To/Desktop (Create Shortcut). Then as an example, open
Notepad/File/Save As and that Folder should be listed as a Save option (from
any "visible" partition).

A workaround would be to add that folder to the Places Bar Section (left of
Save As):

For Pro:

Go to Start/Run and type in: gpedit.msc then navigate to:

User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/ Windows
Explorer/Common Open File Dialog/Items Displayed in Places Bar.

Choose Enabled then paste or type the link to the folders that you want
listed.

Or...

Add Folders to the "Save As" Dialog (Places Bar) Line 118

Or use TweakUI/Common Dialogs
