Hello there,

There have been many people who want to make a VCD or SVCD and have been
disappointed that Movie Maker cannot do it.

I have been looking at the most recent Windows XP Official Mag and find
that it co0ntains some useful programs. One of these programs is by Magix
and is called Movie Edit Silver. Apart from adding the potential for some
new transitions and effects to your desktop it also gives the chance to
create a VCD or SVCD with menus etc...

Well worth a look I think.

Try Nero. It's easy and works well. You can get a trial version at
www.download.com. But if you don't want to pay for a program for making vcd
and svcd... then I suggest VCDeasy. It's free (or at least it was last I
checked). Google it and it should show up. It's a great program that will
allow you to add menus and some other features as well. The only problem I
had with it was that it's a bit tricky to set up--at least on my computer.
Friends of mine use it and have no trouble, so it must be me :-)

Hello there,

Thanks for that. What I was trying to do was inform others that there is a
rather good editing & SVCD program being given away FREE on the cover disk
of the XP Magazine. I already have more than I will ever use in this area.

Movie Edit Sliver was given away with PCFormat last issue (same publisher)
and it's crap! It cannot make VCD's Period.

Silver edition is not able to write them. Only the £40 upgrade to version
XXX can write VCD.

Hello there,

Oh. Its strange because the wizard took me all the way through and I
backed out because I did not want to waste a disk on an experiment. Does it
come up with some message right at the end then?

Did with my copy. Said something about upgrading to Professional (i.e.
useful!) version. I too was fooled into thinking this was just the program
I'd been looking for. I didn't buy the magazine for this program, buy it
anyway - but still felt decieved.

Replace the word Silver Edition with DEMO!

Seems VCDeasy is now a £££ program. :-( - going to try out the demo tho'.
Here's hoping it'll actually write a few VCD's for me.

Hello there,

You are right.....I thought I had followed the wizard to the last but one
stage....I tried earlier with a cd in the drive...and of course it
failed...pity for those who need something cheap and reliable...I should
have known better.

I've been trying to find a freeware program that can make VCD's, and I've
managed to find 6 for the MAC OSX, but nothing but trails/demos for Windows
:-(

I have tried VCDEasy and found it very good. The demo can make (s)vcds that
are nore more than than 200Mb. Most of mine do. For full vcds one may hunt
out the older version which was completely freeware. VCDEasy has the full
functionality for making menues but lacks a full visual interface such as
found in other paywares. But it is the only decent freeware around.

The last freeware version:

Hello again,

I have a search running at the moment for vcd software. The program
searches around 15 or so other search engines including Google, which is
why it always finds more results than google alone.

So far it has made 512 hits and still searching. If you have a suitable
email address I can send you the "text only" output so you can go through
it. As always there are a few that are not worth looking at things like
"Best Prices at" and so on. I found a few trial versions on the first
screen and some of them looked rather good. As always you have to search
through these things to get the best, I would be surprised if there is not
at least one free program. If you are interested I will leave it running a
while. It orders the results so as to make life easy.

If you can create a use it once yahoo address perhaps that would work for
you.

Cheers, that would be helpful. Here's my emial address:

Please put moviemaker in the subject line to avoid auto delation.
