I downloaded the Vista and burned on a DVD. I bought July 2006 Computer
Shopper and VERY EASILY created a new partition, I then tried to reboot and
got a blank black screen saying something about a table not recognised or
soemthing and it just stayd on this.
I rebooted having inswerted the DVD and lo and behold Vista installed.

I now have a choice of which OS to boot from and so can do work that I want
to keep on my XP boot and test and play with Vista. Once the upgrade becomes
available, I can upgrade teh XP boot and simple use the Vista area for files
etc...

Hope this helps similarly novice people to enjoy this gorgeous OS

hi
which edition of computer shopper did u buy, uk or usa?
i have partition magic 8.0 and a 200gb hard drive currently partitioned
5gb/185gb.
i want to make another partition for vista and was wondering for large does
the partiton need to be? (i don't want it to bee too big and end up wasting
space)
any ideas?

many thanks
Hish

It was the UK edition.

I kept my XP partition as 30Gb and isntalled the Vista on the new 60Gb the
partition manager created. This way I keep my Xp safe with its assocaited
programmes, I can still access the fiesl and folders from Vista. I just
though that it would mean i can upgrade the XP partition when it is released
in 2007 and then the 60Gb partition would be free for new files and folders
etc.

I think that you need 15-20GB to play with or there will be no room for
programmes.

hi thanks for the info,
i think i might go for a 80, 100 split or something simillar. i wonder how
much disk space will be lost for the parttion? i'll install my programs in
the vista section but still save my files in the xp part.

thanks for the info

I didnt loose any space, it simply split the drrive as I asked it to!!

Good luck, Vista is very pretty to look at and the glass features are very
pleasing.
