I only use this for newsgroups. I am forced to use OL to sync with my Treo.

Is there a way to make WLMail open the newsgroup folders by default? In
other words if I open the program it will have the newsgroups in the left
hand pane instead of mail folders.

I don't know of any way to do that.

BTW, Windows Live Mail questions should go in the
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop group. You will get more help
there. This group is for Windows Mail.

With Outlook Express it was possible to have shortcuts like
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /news
or
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly

I haven't tested this to see if a similar switch will work with WM or WLM.

If you have no Mail set up In WM. You can use it only for newsgroups. On my test machine I just tested it and when I open WM set up to read newsgroups ONLY then only newsgroups open on the left hand.

I set up a mail account then it reverted to open with mail.

Make a shortcut with this command line:

"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news

The quotes are required.

Also, remove the mail accounts.
