Hi,

I'm running a PPTP VPN on Win 2K Pro. We had a problem recently where
one user left her computer connected to the VPN all day while out of the
office, which prevented other users from connecting (since Win2k Pro only
allows one simultaneous connection). Is there some sort of server setting
that will disconnect inactive users after a set time?

TIA,

Hi graham,

There is a policy setting in the server to disconnect the clients after a
time of inactivity. You can follow the below steps to set the timer.

1) In the Computer Management window, look for "Routing and Remote Access"
under "Services and Applications".
2) Under that, open "Remote Access Policies" and double-click on the first
entry in the displayed listings.
3) You will get a dialog with a button named "Edit Profile". Click on it.
You will get another dialog. Select the Dial-in Constraints tab.
4) Check the Entry saying "Minutes server can remain idle before it is
disconnected" and enter the time.

Along with this in all the user profiles, you must do the following.
In the Computer Management window, System tools->Local users and
Groups->Users. For each user:
1) Double-click on the user item.
2) Goto Dial-in tab.
3) Under Remote Access Permission (Dial-in or VPN), select "Control access
through Remote Access Policy".

Hope this helps

regards,
ram
