Make the contact list the first place to look for email names

Several months ago, I posted a similiar message. I had just migrated from
Outlook 2K to 2003 at work, and was unable to get Outlook to search my
contacts list instead of our networks global address list as the initial
source for email addresses.

Russ Valentine pointed me to the Address Book - Tools - Options, and that
did the job.

Unfortunately, I have now moved to a new desk, and have a similiar problem,
except that my personal contacts do not show up in the combo boxes on this
dialog. The listbox only displays the "Global Address List" option. When I
try to use the add button to add my personal contact list to the listbox. it
is not visible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Use Tools | Email Accounts to add the Outlook Address Book to your mail
profile.

Sue,

I actually had to add the Personal address book instead of the Outlook
Address book, but you got me pointed in the right direction. thanks

Hi Sue,

OK, I added the Contacts book to my mail profile under Outlook Address
Book, but the system still defaults to the company Global Address List
when I open a new message. How do I reset the default?

And I have a related question. Can the email addresser recognize and
insert real names with and/or as well as email addresses? So far, it
only recognizes portions of the actual email address, not the person's
name, then plugs in only the email address.

PS I recently imported my addresses into Outlook from Yahoo using a
Windows CSV file. I had to define several fields to display in the
contacts window (such as email address, business phone, etc.), but all
the information came over OK.

Thanks,

Beverley

Why did you add the PAB? You don't need to use that in Outlook 2003. It's
still supported mainly for backward compatibility and migration.

Once you have it in your profile, you can work with your contacts folders in
the address book. Use Tools | Address Book, then Tools | Options to get to
the address book dialog where you change the list that's shown first. You'll
probably want to use the Contacts folder that should be listed under Outlook
Address book.

You can adjust the lists used for address resolution on that save dialog.
