I was thinking of getting the smallest hard drive possible for my internet
computer to cut down on the scan time for all the spy and virus programs
or would a larger drive with a minimum amount of files and programs
installed be the same thing?

Scan time depends on the quantity of files, not the size of the h.d.

And on the rotation speed (rpm), and the size of the onboard cache. And
the access mode (PIO vs UDMA). There are lots of factors involved.

You forgot h.d. seek time.

And the areal bit density (bits per sq mm). Basically the fastest access
is going to be on the most modern drives, and you'll actually do better
using a small fraction of a big drive, as long as you use the first few
tracks/cylinders rather than the last few. Defragging helps a lot too.

Really guys (and gals), there are =much= worse problems afflicting the
world than 'how long will a virus scan take to complete' - if it runs in
background you'll probably never notice it at all on any modern machine.

Easiest answer is not to use anything IE based.
