Make Image Size Smaller

I am trying to place an image in a series of Access 2000 reports. I've tried
as .bmp, .jpg and .tif and get basically the same result each time. The
original image is quite small, but when inserted into the report, the
database size dramatically increases. (like from 3mb to 9mb larger than
before the image)

I've tried from the menu: Insert -- Picture -- then browse to the file.
And also from the toolbox, dropped in the "Image" and browsed to the file
(which I believe is doing the same thing as above).

The image looks good and prints fine, but by the time I add it to 40
reports, my database will be huge! Any suggestions on a better way to insert
an image? Is there a certain file type Access prefers?

Thanks for any help!

Susan,

A couple of things:
Linking to the image will not increase your db size much.
The image can be left in the file system (somewhere where
it won't be deleted \ changed or messed with) and in an
unbound image control you point to the location of the
image. If you look at the properties for the image control
the path should be in the "picture" property. Access does
seem to prefer bitmap images.

If this is being added to 40 or more reports I would guess
that it is a company / organisation letterhead. A good
idea is to create a subreport with the page header
information and logos. Drop this subreport into the other
40 reports. This has the advantage of only having 1 report
to change when the logo / phone number / address / or
whatever changes. Also if you choose to bring the image
into the database it will only need to be stored once for
this subreport.

Terry
