Hello,

Is the following possible:

I have a domain called domainname.net created in my Windows 2000 DNS server.
Is it somehow possible to make an entry in the DNS so that no matter what i
write
in front of domainname.net it will work ? (all should point to the same ip).
So that if i write www.domainname.net or intranet.domainname.net it will
point to
the same ip with out me having to create these hosts in my DNS ?

Thanks,
Jan -

A wildcard record will do this. However, if domainname.net is in the DNS
suffix search list, any query not appended with a trailing dot, will hit
this record and resolve. One should not use a wildcard record without fully
understanding the behavior if the domain that this record is in happens to
be in the DNS suffix search list.

That said, to create a wildcard record in the DNS console, open the zone you
want the record in, right click in the zone, select new domain from the
list. Name the domain with an asterisk "*" (Without the quotes), then in
this new sub domain, create a new host record, leave the name field blank
and give it the IP you want it to resolve to.

Thanks - it worked...

Best regards,
