Make a self contained file?

We have a PPT file that accesses a bunch of WMV files. I don't normally deal
with PPT, but I have a request to be able to insert this entire presentation
into Sharepoint as a single 'document'. Is there a way to turn this all into
a self contained presentation without having to keep the WMV files external?

Echo:
I'm about to try to create an exe. Should I expect that any PC will be able
to play the video files inserted into a presentation?
Also, we send these presentations to clients who work with PC and Mac. Mac's
can't read exe files? Do you know of another way to create a self contained
Powerpoint that will run on both or Mac that can be created by a PC?

Thanks,
Rochelle

Hi, Rochelle.

You should be able to include the video files with no problems -- just run
the Package for CD or Pack and Go to resolve the links from presentation to
video (and include it in the EXE), and you should be fine.

You're right, the Mac won't be able to read the EXE. I'd probably either
convert to Flash or HTML for something that will work on a Mac. The biggest
problem is these aren't self-contained.

I'd use PPT2HTML for straight HTML conversion. (PPT generates odd HTML
itself.) http://www.rdpslides.com/pptools/ppt2html/index.html

Google PowerPoint to Flash, and you'll turn up a ton of options, including:

http://www.articulate.com/
http://www.crystalgraphics.com/powerpoint/powerconverter.main.asp
http://www.presentationpro.com/products/PowerCONVERTER.asp
http://www.impatica.com (java conversion, not Flash -- still good!)

I would recommend you download the trial versions and try them with your
specific presentation to ensure the conversion does what you want.

I think you could zip all the files these processes create and send the
zipped file to the Mac user. Hopefully someone else will pop in with ideas,
too.

As a semi-related aside, I'm working on a project right now where people
ordering the autorun PPT CD (for the PC) are expecting a DVD for some
reason. Since we want to offer the CD to both Mac and PC users and don't
want to have to worry about people getting the wrong thing, I'm actually
going to just create a DVD. Luckily, the presentation is really just a photo
show with narration, so I don't have to worry about converting the
animations also. (If I had to do that, I'd probably convert PPT to Flash and
then dump the Flash file in the DVD authoring program (Encore) to maintain
the animations.)

Oh, I forgot -- for the video, you might want to convert that to WMV so it
plays on most PCs. (This won't help for the Mac, though.) PFCMedia at
http://www.pfcmedia.com is an inexpensive add-in that will help with this.
You should be able to do what you need using just the 2-week (10 day?) trial
version also.

For the Mac, QuickTime is good, and I think MPEG should work also.
