Major Problems!

Iam picking up where someone left off unfortatly and need
some help!

We have a problem with two of our server, one being win
2000 and the other being windows 2003 server they both
have active directory loaded and the windows 2000 machine
has exchange loaded. the problem is that if a user changes
there password it is not changing it on the windows 2000
server I have looked at the roles for the two dc and have
tried transfering the RID to the windows 2003 server but I
get an error " The requested FSMO operation failed the
current FSMO holder could not be contacted" ?? I dont
understand I am on the windows 2000 server and it stated
that it is currently the master, underneath is the windows
2003 server which it offers me as an alternative to
transfer too..... Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you sure you don't have underlying AD problems. Load the support tools
cd-rom\support\tools\setup.

run dcdiag /v > c:\dcdiag.log
run c:\dcdiag.log and review the output and see if this system is reporting
any errors.
