Lauralee

I'm recently purchased a new pc for my mother and we are have a hard time
with email account setup in windows vista-mail.
I know I am using the correct stmp and pop information; yet, I continue to
get the same message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.gmail.com',
Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995,
Secure (SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Can anyone out there offer any suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

gmail's POP3 uses port 995 I think.
Tools | Accounts | Properties | Advanced

I know that the gmail server does not use SSL -
"(SSL): Yes" is the reason the server is rejecting the connection.

Tools | Accounts | Mail | highlight pop.gmail.com | "Properties" button
| "Servers" tab | *uncheck* [ ] Log on using Secure Password Authentication.

[x] "My server requires authentication" should be checked, and the "Settings.."
button should be set to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"

Scroll down to item number 16 and note that there is no check in
" [ ] Log on using Secure Password Authentication ", which is
the SSL - My server requires authentication, yeah, but not SSL.

VanderMolen,

thanks for the tip--our email client is working like a dream.

By the way, can I import my Windows live mail account into windows mail
client.

No, SPA is not the same as SSL.
Note that in OE and WM/WLM those options appear on
different screens.
The SSL option is on the Advanced tab.
The SPA option is on the Servers tab.

Au contraire, it does use SSL:

The older Windows Mail client was not designed to import from
the newer Windows Live Mail client. What are you trying to
import, account information, emails, or contacts?
