Hey all.

Installed Arctic Cooling thing today, was easy enough, followed all the instructions on the leaflet and i put everything back in PC.

Just gone to plug it all in, done everything normally and...Nothing.

Took off the side panel and tried again, the fans spin and the lights turn on for a maximun of a quarter or a fifth of a second, then it totally dies. Note the small LED built into the motherboard stays lit.

To get the fans to spin for that fraction of a second you need to turn the PSU off then on or take out the cable and replace it again. Simply pressing the button in does nothing after the first time you do it.

I have cleared CMOS and unplugged non vital components and nothing changes. It cant be anything to do with arctic cooling can it? surely the computer would turn on and just error or something...

Im completetly lost as to what it can be... Please help fast (all college work, games saved etc etc...) on parents computer right now.

Thanks!!

Regards,
Chris

It sounds like you could have plugged the power cable for the fan onto the wrong header - it might think there is no fan installed and thus turn the PC straight off. I've had that happen before.

there could be a bad/broken wire - try movein the fan wire about

mabye the last thing you want to try - but you could try putting old fan back in - just to test ur pc again - incase you connected something wrong or broke something

hope you get it sorted - is there a switch or dial on the fan it's self ?

where did you buy it from??

maybe its...um, broke...send it back!

problems like that i would assume somthing is not plugged in where it should be.

Heres a little checklist, you've probably done them all, but just in case. These simple mistakes happen to the best of use, where we forget a single connector :/.

Make sure the card is in the slot properly.
Make sure the power connector for the graphics card is connected.
Make sure the VGA silencer fan is connected to the card correctly.
Try pushin all the power connecters in the HD, cd drives, mobo etc, you might of knocked one loose.

If that all fails, then i would suggest you take off the VGA silencer, and see if the core is damaged. I've read about people who have over tightned there VGA silencer and damaged the core, but you need to be an oaf to do that!

If the core is fine, try the card in another computer, or try another card in the computer that wont work properly!

If, and if all that fails, im clueless :/ .

You were right Ian, it's quite ammusing really.

Bought a fan from eBuyer a while ago, a multicoloured LED thing, has a 4 pin connector and a 3 pin connector on...

In my haste to get it all working, i did something silly, plugged BOTH in!!! I'm a twit.

See the attached photograph!!

OK, you're a twit ... :D

But for future reference ... if a system turns on for a split second and turns off, that is a good indication of a "short" somewhere.

Now you've seen it for your own eyes you'll know what it is next time you "see" it.

;)
