Hi

Have you lost 'The Administrator Account'? If so, I'm not quite sure how unless you have managed to manually delete it. A 'Repair' install - without losing all your settings - could be your way out of this situation:

Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del key twice on the xp login screen.
When the username password box comes up type the username
as "Administrator" and leave the password blank.
You will be logged in as admin. This account is created
at
the time when xp is installed.

After that go to control panel user accounts you will see
your admin account. Change the password.

Note the above steps are for win XP Pro.

Or you can do a new install but you will need to
compleatley remove xp. the best way is to FDISK the hard
drive remove the partision go to your cmos and get it to
boot from your CD drive after that xp will do all that is
nesasery.

You can do a safe boot which in turn allows you full access to your account
manager. Create a new Admin (you). And as Will pointed out, a XP
reinstall/repair would more than like fix all your problems and kill all the
system gremlins without losing your configuration
