OREALLY

I've noticed that not so occasinally my cable Internet conncetion is not
active after bringing the computer out of stanby. Besides rebooting, is
there a way to keep the connection when coming from Stanby mode?
I'm using XP 2 Media Center.

Thanks,

Oreally

How do you connect to the internet?

Generally speaking, an ISP will drop your connection once it senses that
your computer is no longer online.

You 'lease' an IP address from Comcast. That means that an IP address is
assigned to your computer for a limited amount of time. When the time is
up, Comcast ordinarily 'renews' your lease by giving you a new IP. If
your computer is offline at the time, it can't renew the lease.

This is normal, and it's the way broadband ISPs manage their IP addresses.

Rebooting is one way of acquiring a new lease, but it's not necessary to
reboot to renew a lease. You can renew your lease manually at any time.
Here's one way to do it:
