The error message shown above is displayed every time I use IE6. I am using XP Home Edition, which has been installed for some time - and did not display this error message. With the exception of the message, the system appears to be functioning properly

The message can be cleared easily, and it does nothing other than slow down progress

I know this condition is not unique, because I find the same question posted on several independent forums - and with no definitive answers

Can someone help?

Hi Davejay,

Have you tried reinstalling IE yet?

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the ie.inf file, right-click it and choose
install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).

Hi Davejay,

You might want to take this up in one of the many Internet Explorer groups.
It sounds to me like there is a plug-in at work here, and they would be best
suited to help you.

Can you steer me a little, Nutcase? I can't seem to find IE discussion groups
Thanks for your help.

Hi Davejay,

As you are using the web interface, in the left column, go up to "Internet
Technologies" and click the + sign, you will see Internet Explorer 6 here,
and several subgroups below it.

Or, alternately, learn to use a newsreader and connect to:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.inetexploree.ie6.browser

Hey Nutcase, thanks again. Turns out I had browser overload - Java,Activex,Macromedia and other friends caused the problem. A friend of mine told me to clean out cookies and objects in IE, and that solved the problem. This is not an isolated problem - I've seen several other questions in forums about this condition. Them third party dudes can get to you sometimes!
