Dear All,

I'm getting junk email with around 140-150 kb almost everyday and it my
mailbox is getting full and this emails are full of virus effected
attachments.

And I'm getting these emails right after subscribing Microsoft Newsgroups,
don't tell me that Microsoft Newsgroups can't control these things. I hope
others are also facing these problem.

Here I'm not using any exchange server or any email server, and no way of
blocking these stupid junk emails. Can anyone suggest me, how to avoid
these. ?

Help me out please, can't afford to receive anymore emails.

Regards
ItsMe

It's not Microsoft's fault. By posting here, your email address is
available to spammers (and viruses). That's part of the territory that
goes with posting in a public forum.

In future, you could post with a "nospam" address, eg

tony@nospam_please.maximas.com.my

which isn't foolproof but should get rid of a lot of the problem.

Personally I just filter my spam with Spambayes.

An Jon suggests, you should hide your email address, but to combat spam, try
SPAMPAL

I've had my domain for a few years now and I get loads of SPAM emails,
SPAMPAL removes 99% of them.

SPAMPAL installs its self as a POP3 mail server, so it will work with any
email client.

Good to hear you have anti-virus software. This round of attacks would have
been stopped in its tracks if everybody in these technical newsgroups had
some installed. Every time someone new, who has no up-to-date anti-virus
software, downloads messages they become a new spam/virus generator for the
Swen.A/Gibe.F virus.

The only way to reduce the impact is for all of us to ask our email
providers to install anti-virus software so that an email of 150k would
shrink to around 2k when the virus payload is removed. We would still get
the spam email but it wouldn't fill up our mailboxes so quickly.

Spam Pal is great and I know that it gets faster the more you use it but it
slowed my downloads of email to the point where I couldn't keep up with the
spam/virus emails. You could also try mailwasher from www.mailwasher.net if
you need something easier to use and, initially, much faster.

There's a lot of information on spam and its prevention at
http://spamlinks.openrbl.org/spamlinks.htm. I've also
I posted some simple information on www.estraker.com under
Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus.
