Mail takes too long to download

I am using Microsoft Pro and when I click to open mail, most of the time it
takes an unacceptable amount of time to download mail. A few nights ago it
took 1 1/2 hours to get 32 messages. These are junk and simple email, not
business stuff. How can I correct this problem? My laptop is only 3 months
old.
