My mail keeps shutting down with the following error message:
Windows Mail has stopped working
A problem casued the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close
the program and notify you is a solution is available.
Then noting happens..no notification and the program just won't work. I
close it manually and get the same thing every time.
I was trying to import my mail stuff from OE at the time.
I had done this successfully with one identy..this is the second identity.
How can I get it to stop importing?

I get the same issue. I am using AVG Free and it doesn't seem to be scanning
the mail archive. I uninstalled McAffee trial version that was trying to
scan the archive. Any further ideas Steve?

When you install AVG make sure you disabled the email scanning option during
installation. If you didn't, then uninstall it and reinstall it that way.

If that doesn't fix it, then McAfee probably already did its damage. You
can try my WMUtil program (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/) to compact and repair the
database, and if that doesn't help, then move all the files and
subdirectories (with WinMail closed) out of the WinMail directory and then
WinMail will start fresh. You can then try File | Import to get the
messages from the directory to which you moved the files, and if that
doesn't work, then just go to the relevant directories and drag the eml
files from Explorer and drop them into WinMail folders.

Thanks for the tips Steve. I did everything including reinstalling AVG and
importing to a new windows mail setup. I still get 'Windows mail has stopped
working ....searching for a solution'' which is then replaced with 'a problem
caused the program to stop working correctly etc' of course it wasn't really
a problem that stopped it, it was me closing the window! The benefit is now
however that winmail doesn't restart automatically, small blessings!

Sorry not to be of more help.
