Mail Problem

Hello,
I wonder if anyone can make any sense of this.

After reinstalling winxp/sp2, I tried to set up Outlook
Express, with the result that I could no longer recieve
any mail. The OE log looks like this:

Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2527 (xpsp_sp2_gdr.040919-1056)
POP3 Log started at 01/31/2006 21:07:36
POP3: 21:07:36 [rx] +OK <8180.1138734451@mail.########.##>
POP3: 21:07:36 [tx] USER #########
POP3: 21:07:37 [rx] +OK
POP3: 21:07:37 [tx] PASS *******
POP3: 21:07:37 [rx] -ERR authorization failed

(in the above I have replaced 3 fields by ##,
the rest is a copy).

I have been able to log into my mail account from the web
page of my isp. So, the username/password are not in doubt.

I have also installed the Pegasus freeware, but the results
are the same. I have also tried re-reinstalling winxp and
again re-re-... with no joy.

I have a standard pc with winxp/sp2 and Sygate firewall.

I would appreciate any ideas how to fix this.

Check that the POP3 and SMTP options are correct for your ISP. This
sometimes happens if one of the above has been typed in wrong - for example,
in my case my setting are:

POP: pop.virgin.net
SMTP: smtp.virgin.net

Some isps reguire POP: to read POP: pop3.virgin.net. Check with your ISP.
