I had to reboot my computer and I no longer hear "You've Got Mail" when I get
new mail. I have OE 6. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

Thanks

"Reboot"? Do you mean you reinstalled Windows?

I guess so. I'm not sure. I was having problems and was told to reboot and I
lost a lot of my information.

I'm new to all of this so I don't really know

Reboot - turn off/on (sort of) -- usually takes less than 10 minutes.
Reinstall - to install the operating system again (sometimes all software,
etc) - would take significantly longer than 10 minutes.

Which was done?

Most people reboot (restart their computers) at least once a day or
so. Most people *never* need to reinstall Windows.

If you're not sure, then describe exactly what you did and how you did
it.

I was having problems

Exactly what problems?

and was told to
reboot

Who told you this? Did he tell you how to do it? If he told you to
reboot, and you reinstalled instead, that's like somebody telling you
to change the spark plugs in your car, and you replaced the engine
instead.

and I lost a lot of my information.

If you reinstalled instead of rebooting, there's no surprise there.
When you reinstall, you lose *all* your information

Regarding your mail sounds, did you do what I suggested? Go to Start |
Settings | Control Panel | Sounds.

I kept receiving error messages when I logged on. The messages varied but
they mainly said "Previous Shutdown due to Thermal Event". I always shut down
my computer the correct way.

When I'd get theses messages I'd go into Set Up and clear them and usually
it let me log back on correctly. It had just gotten to where I could not log
on with out going through 5 minutes of clearing messages.

I was told to hit ctrl and F11 as my computer was starting up so I don't
know what you call this.

Again - go by my posting...

(Depending on the make/model of computer you have - CTRL+F11 may be how to
start the restoration process - and wipe everything and return it to the
as-shipped state.)

That's what I did. I chose the "State As Shipped" when prompted and I don't
recall it taking more than 10 minutes to do. I then had to go in and
reinstall everything else.

Do I need to redo this process and choose something else?

I have all of this fixed. My problem is that I cannot get the "you've got
mail" voice notification back onto my computer. Do you know how to do this?

I got the solution to my problem. The email alert that I was looking for is
downloaded from Acurate Solutions. It gives you the voice "You've Got Mail"
alert.

Thanks for all of the help this group has given me.
