Mail not operational from main screen with Vista

The main screen with the closk etc on the right hand side has an E Mail
facility. I cannot get it to work. I get 'application not found' if I try
to use it.

Help please.

Control Panel | Programs | Default Programs | Set your default programs
Make sure that Windows Mail is the default mail program.
