Is there Mail Merge functionality in Powerpoint
If not, what is the most effective way to do a mail merge for a power point presentation?

If I understand what you are asking correctly, you want to be able to
replace some defined record placement markers within a presentation with a
recordset and have the output stored to a directory of almost identical
PowerPoint presentations.

Interesting. No, PowerPoint can't do all that. It can do a global find and
replace text. But this would be one field at a time, one record at a time.
A macro could speed up the process.

Is this something that you would use very often?

Sure can. And as Sonia points out, PPTMerge does. <g>
Text, pictures, sounds ...

If you want, send the slide directly to me (off-line) and I will see how
easy it is to create in Word. That would be much easier than automating
PowerPoint (even though it could be done via a Word table or Access
database).

I am looking for this ability also--the reason I am trying to do a mail
merge to powerpoint is because my document is in powerpoint. Its a
completion certificate--the kind you can frame on the wall. I dont think the
person who started using thought about automating the task and the number of
cetificates we are publishing has grown. So right now we are manually
changing the variable date --like the name, date and test passed, and then
printing it. Back to changing the data for the next cert. VERY DULL and
wasting time. The managers do not want to change the certificate "look" and
I can not figure out how to make the same document in word without hours of
layout--its has a gray marble background when printed, lines etc. I am going
to check out this add in and Microsoft downloadable templetes but any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Reesy,
have a look at www.take-off.as/datapoint
With that you can automate it in 5 minutes.
Good luck,
Kurt

My wife's a teacher and that's *exactly* the sort of thing Merge was originally written
to do. It's grown a good bit since then and does quite a bit more, but it'll
definitely take care of filling in names, dates and such on certificates in PPT.

Hello,

PowerPoint doesn't provide the functionality that you are looking for
without resorting to VBA or add-ins.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint provide this kind of functionality (without having to resort to
VBA or add-ins), don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS,
please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
