Mail Merge Missing?

A weird thing is happening with Mail Merge. When I click on Tools and then
Mail Merge, nothing happens. No dialogue box, no error message, nothing. A
checkmark is in front of the Mail Merge menu item under Tools.

Is there a simple fix to this? Since I can't access the Mail Merge box, I
can't do Mail Merges through Outlook!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Posting your Outlook version, Word version, and the steps used to lose this
option would be a place to start when you post a question like this.

Boy, this is my day for frustration. I called Microsoft and they said for
$49 they would answer my question. This is on top of similar responses from
laptop company - they said to call Microsoft. Anyway...

Okay, I don't know if this is what you need. Outlook 2003, Word 2003,
Windows XP Professional Edition.

I did nothing prior to losing this - it was there yesterday and now it
isn't. No upgrades, no new programs loaded, etc.

I would truly appreciate help - I didn't realize that I needed to give
additional info. Sorry.

Well since this option simply does not just disappear for no reason, yes you
do need to provide some troubleshooting information. No one has reported
this issue.
Try to think of any changes you made to your system or Outlook profile.
Examine all your transports in the profile including the Outlook Address
Book Service and see if all are configured and running correctly. Run Detect
and Repair.

did you reboot since you noticed it missing? Is SP3 installed - look on Word
or Outlook's help, about menu.

Diane,

Thank you for your response. Your book is sitting right next to my laptop
opened to Hour 10! I have to say your book has been a lifesaver for me for
many things. I have recommended it my entire office.

SP3 is not installed (SP2 is) and yes, I have rebooted. Could it be
SP-related?

Thanks again.

No, I don't think its sp-related since you are on sp2. If you had SP3, then
yeah, maybe. :)

Have you reset the toolbar? Maybe it got moved or deleted accidently....
View, toolbars, customize and reset the menu bar.

In your first post you did not say the Mail Merge command was missing. Was
it? That's what repairing the toolbar would fix. You said it was there but
not working, didn't you? If so that would involve another set of solutions.

Okay, this issue is solved so it should be a dead issue. I did not say the
Mail Merge command was missing. Russ, if you read my email you would see
that I said it was there with a check mark in front of it. I was asking for
help, but instead received a condescending reply. Perhaps you're tired of
answering the same questions again and again. As a person who does not want
to spend hours on this stuff, it was very frustrating. Just my your response
to this email, I can tell that you're not happy that Diane fixed my problem
from reading the same email that I initially sent. I found my solution. I'm
done.

Interesting perception, however wrong it may be. You do me a great
disservice. To suggest that I was "unhappy" that you found a solution is
just plain mean. I am delighted you found a solution. That's what we're all
here for. The other thing we are all here to do (you included) is to help
each other learn about this program and the various problems that arise and
how to fix them. Accordingly, there is no reason you should have responded
angrily to my request for clarification of the initial problem.

I'm sure you thought you posted clearly enough in the first place for
everyone here to be able to post a simple solution, but you did not. Your
issue has not been posted before. Your post said that the Mail Merge command
in Outlook suddenly stopped working for no reason. Fair enough, but that
symptom suggests a far different problem than a corrupt toolbar. It suggests
a version mismatch between Outlook and Word or corruption of one of your
transports. And that takes a lot more troubleshooting to track down. That's
why I requested the information I did.

I would respectfully request you answer a couple of hundred posts here (we
can use the help) and see how difficult they are to unravel before you start
criticizing others who are trying to help.
