Running Outlook 2002 with SP2, wanting to mail merge
email in plain text. All worked well in Outlook 2000, now
get 5 second wait syndrome for each of (200) emails.

1. is there a way around this?

2. why is plain text considered unsafe?

Dave Lyons

Of course. That is Outlook's email security feature and has been well
documented.
Your only option is to use HTML to avoid the security prompt:

Thank you for replying.
I have a simple excel file with names and email addresses.
I use Word 2002 to do an email merge using that file as
data, constructing a letter in the normal way, choosing
plain text.
At the wizards last step, it begins to send emails
to outlook. Outlook tells me that this is unsafe, and
demands confirmation for each email. It imposes a 5 second
wait between them.

If I choose html (which can be dangerous if misused),
it has no problems.

I've never seen this "5 second wait syndrome" nor has anyone else ever
reported it that I've seen. What do you mean? Include all steps.
Who considers plain text unsafe?
