I am trying to print labels from my address book. The address book was
initially set up on W98 but we now have XP.
Last year, before upgrade, I could do this but now it will not let me. I get
as far as selecting merge from Outlook Address Book but then nothing happens.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

I discovered "the hard way" that MS Word 2003 takes a LONG time to begin the
merge process from Outlook 2003. I have ~1300 names in my Contacts folder
and about 2000 names in the subfolders. It also takes almost three minutes
to display the Folders window after selecting the Outlook Profile. Once the
Folder is selected, it takes about 1-2 minutes to merge the addresses with
your document. Initially, being impatient, I closed down MS Word after the
first few minutes. Depending on the size of your Contacts folder, it may
take more time to complete the merge process.

Thanks for that. The options for which address book to use comes up quickly.
I get the warning about the info coming from a trusted site. Once I select
Outlook Express, I click on ok, then wait.... Nothing else has happened after
about 30 minutes. Did yours fire up in the end? Any other suggestions, please?
Thanks very much

Why would you select Outlook Express? You can't do mail merges to OE.

I thought that the operating system might by relevant. I am trying to get the
data from Outlook Address Book to word/works. I have read the instructions
but they all state to open the address book then click on Tools then Mail
Merge. My Tools does not have a Mail Merge option in the drop down menu.
Thanks for your help

You don't merge to the Outlook Address Book. You merge to Contacts.
Have you read the instructions on how to do a mail merge in the Help files
or here?

So what can I do?

From your other posts, I am guessing you don't mean the Outlook Address Book
at all. You're talking about the Windows Address Book used by Outlook
Express.
You have to be using Outlook to do a mail merge to your existing Contacts.
Otherwise you'd have to create a separate data source for your recipients
(like an Excel file or a Word Table) to which you can do the merge from
Word. Read the articles I posted.

Because you are using Outlook Express(OE), the underlying OE database is not
compatible with Microsoft Word. That fact is explained in the Knowledge Base
article at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811380

The article explains how to export your OE Contact database so it can be
used by Word, but it is a "klutzy" solution at best. If you already have the
MS Office suite with MS Word, I recommend you convert your Outlook Express to
Outlook and import all your contacts to Outlook. From there, creating
mailing labels is a bit more straightforward.
