All of a sudden ... incoming mail freezes and I have to log out and then end
to get new email ... just started happening since last microsoft vista update
.... What can I do ...???

Which third party security programs are you running?
Some of them are not very compatible with Windows Mail, and new
incompatibilities tend to occur when updates are installed.

Gary,

I am suddenly having exactly the same behavior. It's not particularly
helpful to ask 'what programs are you running'. This just started happening
and if there are programs that may be causing this - can you list a few of
the major suspects? I suspect this is a problem with the latest update...and
it is indeed annoying.

Gary asked specifically what "third party security programs" you were
running. McAfee, Norton, AVG, Avast, etc.? All are known to cause issues
and since they update frequently, it is more than likely one of their
updates caused this sudden behavior. Indulge him - he's an expert.

At minimum, disable the program's email scanning (redundant layer of
scanning since email is just another file that regular file scanning will
protect), and know that some programs have to actually be uninstalled and
reinstalled in order to deselect email scanning. But McAfee and Norton both
have options you can deselect without going to that extreme.

No two problems are "exactly the same", please start a new thread of your
own and give the details of your problem.

The list that is normally posted, along with Antivirus applications that
scan mail are:

Ad-Aware Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
Kaspersky
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spy Sweeper
Spyware Doctor
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5, reported to be fixed in later versions.

I didn't ask which programs you are running.
The only ones of interest are third party security programs, particularly
your antivirus. Corrective treatment depends on which antivirus program
you have running.

Gary Vandermolen is right on regarding third party security blocking
incoming
mail. After reading his input I immediately disabled my AVG mail
scanner and
restarted computer and the problem was resolved. djackson
