The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'dave'sbook1', Account:
'pop.east.cox.net', Server: 'smtp.east.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0Ey outbox.
also windows mail will only get my incoming mail when i log on to the email

You may be experiencing a port 25 block. When you got that error
message, was your Internet connection being obtained from Cox?
If not, what you experienced is normal. As a general rule, the owner of
the SMTP server you are using must be the same as the entity providing
your Internet connection at that moment. For more on this see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

Let us know if you are using a laptop away from home.
If not, which antivirus are you running? Some of them cause problems
with Windows Mail over time.

Thanks Gary ( My name also)I am on a towboat away from home using my laptop
on the boat's wireless router. But I also had this problem at home using my
home wireless and the cable co. (isp) broadband router. I use webroot
antivirus and spysweeper. do I need to find out what the port # is for the
boat's router? Later, Wag

still did not work.It now pops up "smtp did not respond-wait 60 seconds" I
did it 2 times. When I hit stop I got these we 2 errors"
Subject 'dave'sbook1', Account: 'pop.east.cox.net', Server:
'smtp.east.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC19
and
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.east.cox.net', Server: 'pop.east.cox.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

You messed up some of the settings.
Look at that Step 5 illustration again.
The sending (SMTP) server must use the SSL option.
The receiving (POP3) server must NOT use the SSL option.
