Hi all,

I have search and search and can not find a answer. Does anyone really
know the answer ?

Basically, what is the dis-advantage of just having mail enabled
security groups ?

I know security groups are for resource access and DL are meant to be
for Email. But when you mail enable a security group it has the same
function as a DL, so therefore why use DL's ?

Thanks in advance.

You can email a security group as well as use it to control resource access.
A security group is a security principal that you can apply permissions to a
resource, as you stated.

DL, or rather DGs (Distribution Groups) are just for emailing.

Therefore, it depends on your requirements.

One scenario where I don't need it to be a security principal is I can
create a DG for a bunch of Contacts that I will never need to use to apply
access permissions to anything.

Another scenario is the PHL-Sales group (PHL for Philly). I can email the
group, as well as use the group to allow access to a resource for the sales
folks.

I hope that was easy to understand. If not, or if I didn't understand your
question, let me know.
