Mail coming Day or 2 late

Can anyone explain why mail would be arriving in a mailbox
two or even three days later than the day it was sent.
 
Im not sure if this will help but I was getting my mail
late as well. Talked to our ISP and let them know that
all 6 of our accounts where doing this. Well they didnt
help at all. I decided to load in the service packs ( SP3
for Outlook 2000) and it solved my problems
