Hi, I hope somebody can help

Whenever I try to click a mailto: link I get an error to the effect that "No can do, default mail client not installed correctly". I have stumbeld around the help pages and believe I need to

IE>TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS?PROGRAMS>E-mail> (Select

Problem is, at E-mail: I have a blank box, no options to select and I can not type in the desired "Outlook Express

If anybody can help please copy a response to me at (e-mail address removed) as I am not confident I will be able to find this forum again

Thanks

Mal

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/defaultl.htm

Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both
IE and OE.

If that isn't enough, see this article:
"Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098

You might also want to try this:

Restores OE to the E-mail clients list in Internet Options

To set Outlook 98, 2000 or 2002(XP) as the default mail client,- Go to
Start, Run - Type in the following with quotation marks and press OK
"C:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient

Hello,

I have the opposite problem. My Internet options are set to Outlook. All my email accounts are earthlink accounts, and I believe are properly configured. When I'm not clicking on a mailto link, I send and receive all emails on all accounts just fine. Yet when I click on a mailto link I get a popup for Outlook Express and it tries to connect through MSN. It fails, of course, because I don't even have an MSN account

I've got XP (new PC) and IE6.0

Any ideas
TIA
Judy

Hello.

I am having a similar problem with Outlook 2000 on a Windows 2000 Pro
Machine as part of a domain.

I can log in as the local administrator and change the File Type
properties of MailTo protocol to the correct path and it works - until
I log in as a restricted domain user. It does not hold the setting -
and as I am restricted I cannot go in to the File Type properties and
change them.

Have tried using regedit and changing the HKey local machine settings
for the default mail client to no avail.

HELP! I am at the end of my teather with this!

Regards

Dave
