I'd like a a mail program that uses rules to delete emails from my POP3
server without downloading them to my computer. In addition, I'd like a
program that would send an email back to an undesirable sender, something
like a "bounce" message. "Message Could Not Be Delivered" or something like
that, looking like a message from the mail server itself.

Right now I'm running Poptray 3.0 beta and it does the delete-at-server
thing well, but I don't think it has any capability to send back a bounce
e-mail.

Outlook Express (I know, I know) lets me make a rule to "Do Not Download
from Server" but it goes ahead and downloads from the server and then puts
the offending email into my Deleted Items folder.

Outlook Express also has a rule to "Delete From Server." OE filtering:

I'm using MailWasher to scrutinize email on the server before downloading so
that I can quickly delete the crap. MailWasher has a "bounce" feature but I
don't use it because it doesn't bounce messages back to the true sender. I
don't think any of the "bounce" programs are capable of bouncing to the true
message sender- they bounce to the "from" email address only, which spammers
fake or forge anyway.

Ian.

You need Mailwasher. It's an anti-spam program that does just what you
want.
