Hi,
a friend of mine is having a problem with her mail in Out.Express.
First of all she cannot access her address book, an error message pops
up"address book might be improperly installed", she cannot send messages
and she cannot access inbox. Window 98 and she reinstalled IE 6.0. The
problem came up just suddenly after somebody sent too large a file via
e-mail. All those files have been deleted . Can somebody help?
Thanks
Dada

Dada,
You might try doing a REPAIR to Internet Explorer... I know, you
are talking about Outlook Express, but they are tightly integrated
and fixing IE also fixes OE.. Go to MY COMPUTER/CONTROL PANEL/
ADD/REMOVE programs window and scroll down till you see Microsoft
Internet Explorer and 5.5 or 6.0 and LEFT click it to highlight it.
Then hit the REMOVE button and another window will come up with 3
options on it... Select REPAIR and click OK... Another window will pop
up wanting a confirmation to the repair and click YES.. Let it do it's
thing.. This can take a few minutes so be patient... This will probably
fix your problem...

Is MS Outlook or Office also installed? Was Win98 also reinstalled? How
was IE6 reinstalled?

OE Help>About> What version (e.g., 6.00.2800.1106)?

Copy/paste the following into an IE Addressbar on her machine, click on GO,
then copy/paste the results into your reply:

javascript:navigator.appMinorVersion

Can't send messages/open Inbox & deleted files problems are probably related
and somewhat complicated to deal with:

1. Start with compacting all folders and deleting Folders.dbx as explained
in http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/errors.htm#foldersdbx.

2. Now see http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone.

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose. Disable Background Compacting and
frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

An anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

DBXtract

DBXtend (additional functionality)
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtend/Default.aspx

DBXpress (faster, more powerful, with even greater functionality)
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx

Inbox.dbx is damaged. Close OE and then Move Inbox.dbx from the store
folder (http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/store.htm) to another Windows
(not OE) folder and run any of the above applications on the moved file. (A
new, empty Inbox.dbx will be created when you next open OE.) If either
application successfully recovers any messages, count yourself fortunate.
Recovered messages may be dragged into an open OE folder.
